My husband John and I have two children; one of each – Penny and Dorlie. We always try to dress our kids in gender neutral clothes, partly so that they could share, and partly because we didn’t want to push any particular gender stereotypes on either of them.
We founded ToucanToucan because I found it really difficult to find sweet, traditional style jarmies for my little people which were a) gender neutral, b) soft, organic cotton, and c) not going to cost the earth!
We believe that children should be free to define themselves. If your son wants to wear a ‘princess’ dress, why not? If your daughter wants to wear a superhero suit, who’s to stop her! Perhaps we don’t need to go that far, but you get what we mean… We’re about non-gender defining prints, patterns, and colours. Even the cut of our clothing is fairly genderless. You won’t find any frills, or lace with us. What you will find is hand painted illustrations digitally printed onto gorgeously soft Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certified cotton.
