Rachel established a passion for textiles as a child, embroidery, weaving, lace making & patchwork. She then went on to obtain a degree in woven textiles at Farnham art school specialising as a rug weaver. Told unless she could weave a 6'x 4' rug in a day it was impossible to earn a living, she studied textile conservation.

Not enjoying taking iron spots out of christening gowns it was here she learnt her first processes of rug restoration & gained work experience during the holidays.

On graduating she joined full time of the oriental carpet trade in London working with both western and Persian dealers & their different restoration techniques. Restoring and dressing the shop & front of house. Rachel realised the complexity to the trade, the weaving types, tribes, prices, auction houses ? Rachel travelled to Turkey, Mexico & Guatemala to expand her knowledge of the production of textiles & carpets. 1996 Rachel first started at antique fairs.

2000 her father became her business partner and they set up the first Rug Studio in Hampton Wick, Kingston upon Thames predominantly concerned about restoration and cleaning while maintaining a presence at the London antique and interior fairs. Eventually 5 full timers and 6 part time staff joined in.

2002 international travel started returned. Germany, Egypt & India. Where 6 years later had seen the set up of her own restoration workshop for large scale jobs where Rachel would teach & over see the restoration of large antique rugs not economically viable to restore in the U.K.
