Smit Draad is recognized for its high quality rectangular winding wire for the capital goods industry.

The main product groups are Continuously Transposed Conductors (CTC), enamelled wire, glass-fibre wound wire and single or multi paper covered wire. The special cable CTC is our largest product group in volume and turnover. CTC is used, together with single or multi paper covered wire, in the manufacture of power transformers. Enamelled wire and glass-fibre wound wire are used in the manufacture of large generators and electric motors.

Continuously transposed cable - The stranded conductors are covered with various types of insulating paper or tape. For dry transformers there are enamelled conductors (temp. index 180) available and an overall covering of Nomex® 410 or glass-tape. The mechanical rigidity of a CTC under short circuit conditions can be improved by either using conductors with an increased copper hardness or with a thermobondable overcoat or combination of both.

Enamelled wire - The enamelled insulated copper wire is a fundamental part of a winding in every electrical machine or apparatus. Compared to fibrous insulations, enamelled copper offers a favourable space saving factor together with a high level of breakdown voltage.

Glass-fibre wound wire - Enamelled glass-fibre wound conductors are very suitable for windings of electric motor stators, generators, special transformers and high voltage motors. In general this insulation can be applied where high mechanical strength and high insulation properties are required.

Paper covered wire - Paper insulated windingwires are mainly utilized in oil-cooled transformers.The properties are determinated by the thermal, chemical and mechanical properties of the various paper types.
