Established in 1994, the Roaring Forties company has had a number of different homes over the past 25 years including the Mornington Peninsula, Thomastown and the current location in Braeside, Victoria.

The Ford GT40 is a high-performance endurance racing car with the Mk I, Mk II, and Mk III model cars being based upon the British Lola Mk6. They were designed and built in England, while the GT40 Mk IV model was designed and built entirely within the United States. The range was powered by a series of American-built engines modified for racing.

The car was named the GT (for Grand Touring) with the 40 representing its overall height of 40 inches (1.02 m, measured at the windshield) as required by the rules. The contemporary Ford GT is a modern homage to the GT40.
