Beside coconut fruits, traditional coconut farmers in this area have been producing coconut sugar for many generations. By tradition, they will make coconut sugar only from the coconut trees found in abundance around their house to avoid the danger of having coconut fruits fall on the ground and hurting children or domestic animals.

PT Megainovasi Karya Mandiri was establised in 2011, starting its work with local organic cooperation in Central Java area as an exporter of their organic coconut sugar to several countries. As the demands increased, we decided in 2012 to start our own organic cooperative company and build an organic farmer community.

After recruiting experienced field officers from local NGO's to be part of our Internal Control System (ICS) team, we started partnering with more than 500 coconut farmers in Kebumen region, Central Java. This number has now increased to more than a thousand farmers covering three regions of Central Java: Kulonprogo, Magelang and Purworejo.
