Thickness and grammage gauges in laboratory and industrial (online) execution can operate in a contactless manner and do not destroy the sample. Measurement is based on absorption of radiation by the test material. Detector generate a signal proportional to the thickness or gram weight of the measured material.
Electrical signal from measuring head is transmitted to the microprocessor controller, where signal is being analyzed and converted to thickness gram weight of the measured material. Meters, especially online, can provide remote control of the production process working under extreme temperatures and harsh environrnental conditions.
Measurements of the thickness and weight of the foil, paper products, plastic products, mineral wool and glass, floor coverings, rubber, chipboard, sheet metal, steel and plastic pipes and multi-layered composites.
Commonly-used types of radiation:
• IR-NIR;
• laser;
• microwaves;
• isotopic radiation;
• X-rays ;
• UV-Vis.
