MASS - a farmer's cooperative started by Plantrich as its Corporate Social Responsibility Project - has 5000 members who produce premium organic spices, coffee, cocoa and coconut products for Plantrich.

We supply Fairtrade and Organic products that include Black Pepper (Whole & Powder), White Pepper (Whole & Powder), Dehydrated Green Pepper, Green Pepper in Brine, Turmer-ic(Whole & Powder), Ginger (Sliced & Cut), Cardamom, Clove, Mace, Cinnamon, Vanilla, Green Coffee Powder, Arabica Coffee, Robusta Coffee, Virgin Coconut Oil, Refined Coconut OiL, Coconut Sugar and Desiccated Coconut.

Our organically farmed coconuts come from an island village - R-Block - that Lies along the Vembctnad Lake in Kerala. R-Block is in the Kuttanad region, a water tourism destination famed as the 'Rice bowl of Kerala: Kerala itself is known as the 'land of coconuts' and gets its name from Kera, the name for coconuts in the local language.

The Vembanad Lake and surrounding villages are home to many freshwater and marine fish, tropical flora and migratory birds Like the Siberian Crane The beautiful waterways fringed by coconut palm groves and paddy fields Lend a rustic charm to this region. These lakeside villages are connected by serpentine canals.

R-Block and many other island villages in this region had been reclaimed from the Vembanad Lake and are protected by dikes akin to those in Hotland. Hence farming in this village is unique as it belongs to an area which has the Lowest altitude in India. It is one of the few places in the world where farming is done 1.2 to 3.0 meters (4 to 10 ft) below the sea level.

The unique farming process makes our coconuts rich in oil content and high in quality. And the best part is that it is completely organic.

In 2008, recognizing the difficulties in farming communities, Manarcadu Social Service Society or MASS embarked on their Fairtrade project to help more than 1,000 small-scale and poor farmers. The cooperative began with a group of ambitious farmers who wanted to support their community to adapt to sustainable farming, increase market access and improve their livelihood. Today, MASS is a network of 17 groups, located in the Kottayam and Idukki Districts in the state of Kerala. Kerala is a mountainous region; the Idukki and Kottayam Districts are home to many farmers and their families who are isolated from urban India with few communication and road links.
