Thermal Spraying is a group of coating processes in which finely divided metallic or nonmetallic materials are deposited in a molten or semi-molten condition to form a coating. The coating material may be in the form of powder, ceramic-rod, or wire. Thermal Spraying has an advantage over other processes as it is a cold process and as a consequence, it never distorts parent material. The thickness of the coating is controllable, no matter what the job size is. Due to wear, corrosion, abrasion, erosion, cavitation, etc. we can avoid the loss of surface properties in a cost-effective manner by thermal spray coating.

Coating quality is usually assessed by measuring its porosity, oxide content, macro and micro-hardness, bond strength, and surface roughness. Generally, the coating quality increases with increasing particle velocities.
