LFD designs, develops, manufactures and repairs an extensive range of innovative lighting equipment for use with night vision goggles on aircraft and ground vehicles. Full consultation with end users at the design stage ensures optimal operational effectiveness.

LFD Limited was set up in 1989 in Gosport, Hampshire and rapidly acquired a market leading position for the supply of covert and visible lights to military aircraft customers on both fixed and rotary wing platforms. Later developments include a range of LED-based aircraft anti-collision lights, including the world’s first 2000 candela white LED unit for the AW159 Wildcat helicopter. In 2004 LFD became the UK distributor for Luminator NVG aircraft external lighting products.

In 2010 LFD acquired Mellish Precision Engineering in Segensworth to further enhance its manufacturing capability. Under LFD ownership MPE rapidly gained AS9100 quality certification. Following significant investment in both machining and assembly facilities all LFD production operations were transferred to the Gosport site.
