The story of Jenny’s starts with Jenny Paterson.

When running a sweet shop in Fountainbridge Edinburgh, in the 1950s and 60’s, she approached two young men working in Mackay’s Sweetie Factory, also in Fountainbridge, and asked them to join her to start Jenny’s Homemade Sweets at new premises in Jocks Lodge.

On 16th May 1961, Walter Innes and Pat Keggie became partners in this exciting new business venture. When Jenny retired the men continued to work hard building up Jenny’s reputation as the best supplier of delicious boiled sweets, soft and sweet Edinburgh Rock, puff candy, tablet, macaroon and Jenny’s famous Rhubarb Rock.

It was hard work but they enjoyed growing Jenny’s together for the next 27 years. In 1989 Walter sadly passed away, and Pat, continued, without his best friend and partner.

Still using these traditional recipes Pat trained new sugar boilers over the years and today Ian McDonald, our head sugar boiler, is passing on these skills to a new generation. Dari Zdada is the latest of these young sugar boilers to come through the ranks.

Pat continued running the business until he passed away 2 years ago aged 80! Now the next generation of Walter and Pat’s family are taking the business forward.

Pat’s family have taken over the running of the business. His son Peter and daughter Lorraine, now the Company Directors, are keen to keep Jenny’s traditional and yet adapt to a changing market.
