Galerie SELLEM opened in February 2006 at 5 Rue Jacques Callot, in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés and is directed by Samantha Sellem who, after training her eye in several art galleries and appraisal offices, decides to open up her own exhibition space.

Since the end of 2013, the gallery widens its programme and concentrates on the presentation of works by artists at the height of their careers between the 50s and 80s. Through a selective approach, the gallery prepares thematic exhibitions showcasing works by masters of modernity – often unique, rare and lesser-known pieces; works that are not always à la mode, but of vital importance in the pages of History of Art in general. Whether it’s paintings, sculptures or works on paper, Samantha Sellem chooses to defy fashion, and to propose to her collectors sound investments.

At the same time, the gallery continues to exhibit works by contemporary artists it represents since the opening – young or more confirmed, enjoying a national and international reputation, and/or having created a significant body of work.

Samantha Sellem qualifies her role as complementary to that of the confirmed art merchants. Young merchants like her strive to create enthusiasm amongst collectors by undertaking new approaches to the process of collecting. She confronts young contemporary creation to that of History of Art heavyweights not only to show and justify the evolution of Art, but also to show that the quality of a contemporary or modern artwork transcends the passage of time.
