FDT 1873 until today

In 1873 the industrialist Friedrich Julius Bensinger founded Rheinische Hartgummi-Waren-Fabrik AG, which concentrated on processing a new raw material: Celluloid. The “Rheinische” products, such as the celluloid doll, enjoy an excellent reputation. The company is developing rapidly and its trademark, the turtle, is world-famous.

1965 The first roofing membrane, Rhenofol C, is launched. After the Braas & Co. GmbH took over Schildkröt Kunststoffwerke AG in 1971, the company became the market leader for the production of materials in the roofing sector. The importance of the flat roof sector continues to grow, so that Flachdachsysteme GmbH is founded as an independent company.

The product portfolio is constantly being further developed and optimised. In 1999, the company Joachim Gussner acquires Flachdachsysteme GmbH and names it Flachdach Technologie GmbH & Co. KG. In 2019, FDT changes ownership again and has since belonged to the Donges Group, forming a strong network with a close-knit sales network in Europe.
