ECO TASAR SILK - MISSION

EcoTasar aims at providing a sustainable livelihood for the rural small producers particularly women in the textile value chain right there in their own habitat so that they do not have to migrate in search of work.

Eco Tasar's journey began as a project of PRADAN - a leading NGO in India. It was set up to create a market for the produce of village based poor women yarn makers in a bid to bring livelihood bpportunity to their door step when there is no income opportunity in their own locality. Eco Tasar came into existence in mid of 2007 as a JV between a cooperative of the women producers and a social entrepreneur.

As a sustainable social venture, Eco Tasar provides employment to over 1950 families in rural India and also works as an independent entity with activities that span the entire gamut of the value chain : from sourcing to marketing of rural handmade Tasar products - products that are of the highest quality and are increasingly in great demand across the world.

The company has constantly strived to create sustainable income for the lowest level in the livelihood pyramid. The products at Eco Tasar are sourced directly from the artisans. Weaving and dyeing is done as close to the artisans as possible. Eco Tasar has chosen the path of "Handmade" yarn or fabric only and strives to make it commercially viable and attractive.

The ability to leverage design and a wide outreach into the market has helped Eco Tasar differentiate itself from the competition. Our designs are very contemporary and exude an aesthetically understated elegance which appeals to the contemporary customers. Eco Tasar exports home furnishing items like cushion covers, duvets, quilts and throws to renowned retail chains in the USA and Europe. We have a strategic partnership with a few international brands, who are keen on buying green/socially relevant/hand made products that have an inbuilt story which appeals to their customers.

Our Strength - 100% Azo Free Dyeing and hand block printing on hand spun / handloom silk, Silk/cotton and Cottons, to make products like stoles, scarves, shawls, sarees etc, apart from our Home-furnishing range.

Additionally, we have the requisite systems and social compliances like CT PAT etc in place which make it attractive for our buyers to buy from us. Eco tasar regularly introduces a large number of designs in quick succession to keep buyers' interest alive.
