Founded by Jennifer Chert, the gallery opened in September 2008 in Berlin, Kreuzberg, in a former mechanic workshop. After eight years, Chert gallery relocated to a new pithhe same neighborhood.
In 2016, Florian Lüdde joined Jennifer Chert in directing the space and the gallery evolved into ChertLüdde.
The program focuses on international emerging artists and significant historical positions, exploring a variety of different artistic practices and media, spanning sculpture, painting, photography, drawing, video, performance and installation-based work. The gallery engages closely with its artists in developing projects and institutional exhibitions.
The gallery hosts and maintains The Mail Art Archive of Ruth Wolf-Rehfeldt and Robert Rehfeldt, a long term exhibition and publication project presenting the archive of Mail Art works collected by the two German artists from the beginning of the 1970s until the early 1990s. The archive is available for consultation upon appointment.
